Webinar Content
Due to continued cost pressures on the automotive OEMs /Tier 1s and phenomenal growth in the Chinese automotive market, China sourcing is on the minds of most automotive executives.

In the most simplistic form, the key driver for sourcing from China is the cheap labor cost, but the real life problem is much more complicated. Labor is just one among several other factors that need to be evaluated including – part complexity / technology, volume, weight, pack density, transportability, produce to print versus design capability, shelf life and readiness of the organization to operationalize sourcing from China. Inability to achieve the right balance among some of these competing factors has resulted in most sourcing initiatives not providing promised benefits. How to achieve this balance?

Once you have determined the right component strategy, the next challenge is engage the most competitive and capable suppliers to provide you with a quote and to eventually supply the parts. How to execute this effectively when the more capable Chinese suppliers are inundated with numerous requests for information and quotations?

To capitalize on the rapid expansion of the Chinese automotive market as well as to develop China as a hub to cater to other growing Asian markets, setting up operations in China seems like a logical next step. While making the set-up decision, a few important factors need to be considered – product suitability, resource availability and the right partnerships.
